My name is Pretty Dube, I am currently 37 years old, a teacher at Baby Steps Early Learning Centre, and this is my story.
My journey is one of hope, promise, and BIG DREAMS.
I was born in a small town, Mgababa in Kwazulu Natal. I grew up without my father. My mother worked very hard to put food on the table for her 6 children, of which I was the youngest. My childhood was one of survival and hardship, where I learnt to appreciate the little things and worked hard for everything I received.
I believe that any child can be happy and successful in later years with the support of their mother. My mother is a loving, supportive woman who was always there for me as a child, and who still is today. She had very little, but what she had she gave. Through it all, she managed to put me, and all of my siblings through school.

As a young girl, I moved to Johannesburg, where I became a mother at a very young age. Deceivingly so, I am already a granny;)
Upon my arrival, I had employment for a very short time, after which I battled for many years to find permanent work, leaving me unemployed, and doing odd jobs only. During this time I had Big Dreams and knew that I was destined for great things.
I was always drawn to teaching, and I knew my family would be proud to have a ‘teacher’ in the family. How this was going to come about, I had no idea.
Where do I even start?
I saw a slogan, ‘Baby Steps to Big Dreams’ and it spoke to me.
Start somewhere, success does certainly begin with Baby Steps.
My husband had met Tracey 5 years ago and mentioned my dream of becoming a TEACHER! She saw me the next week and gave me the ‘start’ I needed.
I started as a teacher’s assistant where I had the opportunity to gain so much knowledge, and where I was trained by the best, all of which has led me to finally becoming accredited with the position of Junior Teacher, working with toddlers. Through Baby Steps, I am continuously gaining knowledge and experience.
Through Baby Steps, I have been so blessed. I have the opportunity to complete a Teaching Degree. My son attends the school and is getting a solid foundation to grow up to be an educated man. I have earned and saved enough money to build my family a beautiful home, which is certainly a dream come true.
My family is proud.
I am proud!
I am eternally grateful for being given this opportunity.
Thank you Tracey for believing in me.
