Melony Vorster

Melony Vorster

Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience and the passion to reach for the stars and change the world.

I am Melony Vorster and I had a dream, a dream that came true not by reaching for the stars, but by reaching out to young hearts and minds.

Ever since I can remember, children have been a big part of our lives. My dad is a musician and helped with the church choir and my mom was lead in the choir. My mom and dad were also Sunday school teachers. There was never a weekend that we did not have children around us.

I can remember as a young girl pretending to be a teacher. My dolls and teddies were my children I taught.

Teaching was not my only passion. I soon started singing, modelling and helping in the youth choir. At the age of 13 I won the Eisteddfod singing against other children from all over the country. I was crowned miss Centurion two years in a row and I have my advanced teacher’s certificate in singing and modelling.

Life had a very fast twist and sent my sister, my mom and I into a hurricane. We had years of struggle but we made it out stronger, wiser and more determined than ever.  I continued to help in the youth choir and soon was asked to help with the Sunday school 4-5 year old classes. This was when; and I believe with the help from God; I realised teaching was my passion.

I will never forget the first school I started volunteering at, Rainbow Kids, situated in a small town called Piet Retief.  When we moved to Johannesburg, I started teaching at a private school where I met Tracey.  I worked very hard and was soon promoted to supervisor. I carried on teaching my own class, and had many duties and responsibilities around the school. I absolutely loved my work.  I worked for this School for 9 years before I was presented with a new opportunity to join the Baby Steps team.

I started working at Baby Steps in 2019 as Head Teacher and was blessed to be a part of this family, not just a school, but a family.

I am looking forward to being Manager of Baby Steps in Linbro Park, Sandton. I am a person that strives on etiquette, professionalism and love.  I know our school will be the home away from home for every little heart that walks into our doors, and know that our ears will be filled with laughter.

Every child is a different kind of flower. All together they make this world a beautiful garden!
